Intro
Hi! I’m Chip Frye, the Technology Guy. By now you’ve probably heard a lot of talk about this wonderful thing we Rochester Lab rats call “e-business.”
What is e-business?
So what is e-business? Well, technically it’s transforming the way key business processes are done by using Internet technologies. You see, you have to transform your core business processes so they can be done on the ‘Net. Now, we call it e-business because it really is all about business, and not just technology. Yes, IBM can help you with the tools, but we’ll also help you create a vision for what you wish to achieve with e-business. Then we’ll supply the solutions and services that will help you make the transition from traditional business to e-business.
Now once you have your e-business agenda established – your vision – then it’s time to build new applications. When it comes to e-business, it’s always a good idea to start simple so you can grow fast. You won’t have to rewrite your existing applications for them to work on the Web; you’ll be able to utilize Internet technologies to Web-enable them. Then IBM can build – or help you build – a new generation of applications that are open, flexible and easy to change.
Next we should concentrate on running a scalable, available, and safe e-business environment. Businesses today are constantly looking to improve return on investment, while users want systems that are responsive and easy to use. We’ll provide an environment with scalable servers, flexible clients and advanced storage devices that can be handled in a secure, manageable way. We’ll help you build on what you have by offering cross-platform integration as well as a complete range of services, from in-house management and Web hosting to full strategic outsourcing.
Finally, with e-business you’ll be able to create a responsive organization that will be able to intelligently leverage knowledge and information. E-business enables you to use data as a weapon through activities like profiling and personalization. Our business intelligence and learning services will help you create a faster, smarter organization; you’ll be able to capitalize on human experience to create a more responsive e-business culture.
Now I’d like to tell you a little story – the astounding story of Mr. E! Please click on the arrow to your right.
The Astounding Story of Mr. E
Greetings and welcome, you ladies and gents
Now come hear a tale about dollars and cents
And one elder fellow who wanted, “Both, please,”
A savvy old businessman named Mr. E
For years Mr. E had been holding his own
Selling his knick-knacks and gadgets alone
But now his competitors, Mr. E hears,
Are working the Web, or so it appears
“So be it,” he said, “If they’re wanting a fight
I’ll call IBM and I’ll do it up right!”
So first, Mr. E’s new partner, Big Blue
Set up email so he could communicate, too
And then the next step was a given, you see
Since no one outside of town knew Mr. E
A Web site was published to show off his wares
And let clients in on his business affairs
“Wow!” Mr. E said, “that wasn’t hard!”
“But you’re not done yet,” said Big Blue, “not by far”
“Clients need access to Mr. E’s systems
Mr. E’s data, and Mr. E’s wisdoms”
“Since you put it that way,” E said with gumption
“Let’s put it all out there for public consumption!”
So once this was done to Big Blue’s satisfaction
They made it so E could make business transactions
And that’s when the money began rolling in
But Mr. E knew that in order to win
He must reinvest and attempt – any guesses?
Right! He'd redefine core business processes!
And with the restructuring there at E, Inc.
E changed how to work, and E changed how to think
E has survived because E is the fittest
E took his knick-knacks and made them e-business
